CAUSES OF THE WORLD'S HUNGER

Hunger is a complex problem throughout the world. The world’s hunger kills many people every year. Every 3.6s there is one person die of hunger. One in nearly 7 people is going to hungry, one in three children is underweight. What causes the world hunger? The natural disasters, the wars and the overgrowth of the world’s population are three mains causes lead to the world’s hunger.

The most serious cause lead to the world’s hunger is the overgrowth of the world’s population.  According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the world’s population is expected to grow from 5.5 billion to 8 billion in 2020. More than 93 percent of this increase will happen in developing countries where people are very poor. For example, Nigeria- a developing country in Africa, the population is over 150 million people, Nigeria become one of the poorest country all over the world. They do not have enough food even clean water; number of starving people is higher and higher.  In fact, not only lower-income countries have hungry people but also developed ones. In some rich and powerful countries such as the USA or the United Kingdom, still have starving people walking along streets everyday. The world’s population is creasing; however, our land cannot be widened any more. There is only 10 percent land good for planting trees; another 20 percent is suitable for raising animals. The enormous mount of population and the limited sand lead to the serious lack of food. Food shortages and the huge of population make people hungrier.

Another cause is that wars do not only kill people directly but also kill them by causing the world’s hunger. Wars plunder many things from people even their life; however, wars still exist. A lot of conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Palestine… affect to all life’s aspects. For instance, the war between Russia and Afghanistan had more than 8 thousand people die, 50 schools, and 34 hospitals were destroyed completely, a lot of roads were out of ordered, food producing and transportation was postponed. As a result, thousands of people die not only because of the consequence of war but also shortage of food. Wars destroy everything: houses, schools, roads, buildings, food, goods even people’s life. This causes a lot of negative effects to people life in physical and mental. All food producing is canceled; labors are deficient due to many people die. Moreover, many people whose relations die cannot concentrate on their work in a long time. In these conflicts, the poorer and weaker countries become the losers they have to receive all bad effects. Everything is destroyed, as a result, people is poorer and poorer, hungrier and hungrier. Average each developing country spends about over 100 billion dollars per year on military. With this enormous money for equipment weapons, we can use it by food to improve people’s living standard. It is a good way to decrease the rate of hungry people. I wonder if there was no war, people would live in a peaceful life and they could focus on producing food, there wouldn’t have starving people.

Last but not last cause, natural disasters damage all the crops and threaten people’s life day by day. Natural disasters such as: tsunami, floods, earthquakes and tropical storms occur every year with frequency and risk level higher.  Sometimes, the weather is so hot and dry that creates the negative effect to the crops. People do not have good condition for agriculture so they do not have enough food for themselves and their families. Sometimes, it rains so much or long time there is no rain… The erratic weather causes bad affect to people. People do not know exactly time to grow or rise. In the North of Viet Nam, people are going to harvest rice, but a storm lands and carries away everything on the field even houses and people life.  People who survive after that storm do not have anything to eat and they become starving people. Every year, a lot of tropical storm land into the shore. They carry away all houses, foods, vegetables animals and people. As a result, many people become homeless, children become orphans and they do not have food to eat. These natural disasters become more dangerous and powerful cause the world’s hunger more serious than ever.

The world’s hunger is the most complicated problem not only in poor countries but also all over the world. We all know that the solution for this cause can make a new one so our responsibility is not just in one day or one month. We even have to spend all life for this problem however we must recognize that: “if you cannot feed a hundred people, then just feed one”.

THE SHOWY CARNIVAL

 

The showy carnival is one of the most famous carnivals in my high school. It is the carnival derived from Rio de Janeiro festival in Brazil- the most famous and colorful one all  over the world. This special day is held for entertainment and fun on the finally week before Tet holiday. Showy carnival is the result of month’s preparation and it is a euphoric event that students in my school dance, sing and have tons of fun.

To get ready for this carnival, a lot of things have to do from the decoration of hall, the curtains, the stage to the system of lights, the guesses… all of them have to prepare carefully before the carnival. People buy many big and expensive candles, balloons and brocade. Brocade is used to make the carnival more colorful. In addition buying candles, balloons and brocade, we prepare a big bottle of champagne used to open the the party. We do not have wine or beer during the party; we all have coca or soda in stead. Music and dance play an important part in this day. Very early in the morning, we bring to school a lot of speakers and flashlights. The speakers are put around the stage and flashlights are hung up everywhere in the hall. The stage is decorated in black and white with many white roses while on two side of the hall is tables with red roses. The decoration does not finish until afternoon. The hall is look like a colorful castle in the fairy tale.

In the evening, at 8 o’clock, everyone presents at the hall enjoy the showy carnival. Suddenly, the flashlights go off while a song rises. The curtain is pull up. The champagne is open and everyone cream in exciting. Just a few seconds, the flashlights system is open again. We cannot recognize anyone because they are all wearing masks and special costumes for this day. I am wearing a cascading skirt and peacock mask, a girl next to me is like a witch with rough black mask. The boy beyond is look like a knight in medieval holding a sword. However, everyone is very excited; we are all dancing as the professional Samba dancers in Brazil. It is like a night club with live samba music played. It is really a good opportunity to experience the music and dance. If you do not want to dance, you can drink some soda or coca or just watch and enjoy  crowd because this day is the only day you are allowed to go home late when you are students in high school. The carnival does not end until 11:30.

When the carnival ends, the lights turn on, we exchange our own masks to others as a souvenir. All boys are responsible for tidying the hall and girls can go home early and of course, no boy complaints about this. At a bout 12 pm, we all come back home enjoying sweet dream with the showy carnival. Although the carnival takes much time to prepare, it bring to us lots of fun and surprise. In fact, students in my school seem to be closer and closer after this carnival. It is one of the most aim to hold this carnival.  

Of all celebration in my school, this one is the most interesting although it takes a lot of time to make plan and prepare. It is really wonderful time in my high school. It not only provides entertainment for students but only gives chance to make friend.                                                                      

Qualities of a global citizen

Global citizen is not a new phrase in our society nowadays. Nevertheless, not many people understand exactly about it. Who are global citizens? What are their qualities? How to be a good global citizen? A global citizen is someone can help people them by practical action and has many good qualities such as: responsibility for our world, sympathy to others people, belief in his ability, curiosity to learn more new thing about the world and equality to everybody. How good a citizen is depend on their activities to our society.

First, global citizens are curious and they want to learn more about the world. Curiosity is the first quality that global citizen must have. Human’s ability is limited; therefore, we have to improve it day by day and try our best to apply it in practice to make ourselves better, and global citizens do, too. Global citizens are good people, who born with “large arms” and “friendly smiles” to change the world in Peace and Happiness. So they have to learn more than ever. Global citizens have to improve their knowledge so as to recognize themselves, and their responsibility to them, to their families, even their countries and their planet. They do not study only by repeating and learning by heart everything written in the books but also traveling around to understand effectively  life coming around. That means they have to study by themselves and do not depend on any books, documents etc... and the update information is really necessary. Each year, there are over 15 million children die of hunger and AIDS killed more than 39 million people this year. Update information help global citizens understand and find a best solution so as to help all the victims. Curiosity is one of the qualities cannot replace because who want to help others must have knowledge.

Second, equality and sympathy are two of the most important qualities of a global citizen. Equality means acting fairly in choices, decisions… and sympathy means understanding and sharing. Every day, AIDS kills thousands of people and millions of people are facing to death. We all know that it is uncured diseases; therefore, no one wants to help them, share with them. So how can they live? Global citizens sit down next to them, give them their hands, take care of them and rise fund to help them live happily in the rest of their life. We all feel very sorry about the earthquake in Japan recently but what we did for them? Maybe it is just a little money. However, global citizens are willing to travel to Japan to help and encourage them overcome the difficulties. Global citizens do not care about whom you are, you have dark skin or white one, you are Catholic or Buddhism, you are African or European as long as you are one of very small person in this planet and you need. How can global citizens can do like that? They are not the Gods, not Angles, not Superman, they are just normal persons. They are fair and sympathy.

Finally, responsibility and belief are very necessary qualities of a global citizen. Many people say that: “you can lose almost everything except your belief”. Belief make people believe in their choices so they have dynamic to work well. Global citizens are not exceptional. They have to believe in their decisions and practice them with all their heart to get succeed. We are living in this world and our responsibilities are to protect “our house”. Every year, thousands of people are killed by earthquake and tsunami. We all know that people can fight against nature but we can do something to improve it by protecting environment. Global citizens play an important part to get everybody together finding out the best solution. They are not only the readers but also the main members take part in many useful activities such as “hour time”, “environment day”, “no smoking day”… global citizen do everything with all their belief that they can make the world better. They take their responsibilities not in a short time, they spend all their life building us a happy and peaceful world.
